Why Nerdcore?

After our latest vlog, Nerdcore Revolution, a viewer asked "Why Nerdcore?"

Our inital response was "Because it's a revolution! A nerd revolution that is gaining momentum!"

The truth of the matter is that when we found out Rob and Russ, who live in LA and work in Hollywood, at the end of their "industry" day jobs, become MCDJ and DJMC, our eyes were opened, and we felt this emerging musical genre needed to be highlighted.

Apparently we weren't the only ones. While tagging along to Vegas with these LA Nerdcore MCs & DJs, we ran into some of our online vid friends who unbeknownst to us were also covering the "nerdtastic artistry". Check out: Geek Entertainment's two-part series on the Nerdcore scene at CES, and JETSET feature many of the Nerdcore performances from the Divx Booth.

Besides this online video coverage, we saw two Nerdcore documentary teams in action: "Nerdcore Rising" and "Nerdcore for Life." We were able to meet "Nerdcore for Life" creator Dan Lamoureux along with co-producer Rob Korotky who explained they had been working on their project for over a year. Check out their trailer HERE!!

To be nontourage is to be just on the other side of It. Whether you want to be the It actor, the It director or the It musician, you will inevitably climb a ladder of varying degrees of success. Nerdcore is nontourage because despite obstacles, these artists make things happen by banding together to express themselves in positive and innovative ways. Proving they won't be under the radar for long however, the Feb. 5th edition of Newsweek raises awareness of this new music genre with their article "Geeksta Rap Rising".

Can't get enough Nerdcore??

The word on the street is that the nerds are getting ready to rock LA. When that gig is set, we will be sure to pass on the details.

Until then, keep scouring the net for some intellectual rhymes. g33k Out!

Viva Las Vegas

We are back from Vegas two conventions later, exhausted, having felt Elvis's bright light city lament that there should be more than the twenty-four hours in the day. Too much fun too little time!

After our whirlwind trip to CES, I returned to Vegas to attend the NATPE convention. This networking event hosted by the National Association of Television Program Executives for over forty years has historically revolved around traditional television syndication. However, in an era when video content can be accessed not only through broadcast and cable television, but on demand, through the internet, or by mobile phone, the idea of syndication now incorporates much much more.

The convention tag line of "Evolve & Prosper" set the tone for this year's gathering where the old studio guard mingled with cross-platform pioneers and panels delved into "The Devilish Details of Digital Distribution" while trying to answer the question of whether primetime still mattered. Although very few questions were actually answered no one denied the impact technology has had on the way we view television today. Sony, a company that has the benefit of being both a studio and a consumer electronic player, hopes to lead other studios towards the future when it suggests CES become the new NATPE. Either way, a geek girl like me was loving life as I wandered the floors of CES and NATPE learning all I could about tech and TV.

Later this week, check out our Golden Globes/NATPE wrap up noncast!
And next week check out our Nerdcore Vlog!!

Blog-tourage?

Welcome to the inaugural entry into the nontourage blog!

Perhaps you've already listened to our noncasts, caught our travelogue to the vloggies, or watched our mini-sitcom Almost There. Now, we offer up a blog to keep you updated in between the podcasts and productions. There is just too much happening behind Hollywood for mere audio and video alone!

We'll announce the when and wheres for the local performers and artists we've had on the show. We'll feature advice and commentaries from industry insiders. We'll recommend neighborhood faves and our local finds around LA. We'll include everything you loved about the podcasts and more.

Chances are when you read this, I'll either be in or en route to Las Vegas!! One of LA's favorite weekend getaways. However, this mid-week excursion is as much work as pleasure for the ladies of nontourage. We are on a quest to learn as much as we can about a new music revolution...a revolution being celebrated at CES. We discovered an emerging artist from Hollywood who is taking part in the event and who will hopefully lead us into a world we've previously only heard about...

So, keep watching, listening, and now reading for even more nontourage-ness.

Next week's noncast: an interview with actor, Tony Hale.
